How old were you? Where did you go? What did you do, what went wrong, and what was great? Was it your last time or the start of a lifetime of outdoor adventure?

Some friends and I are backpacking through Ireland this summer, and we’re trying to figure out what is a reasonable expectation of mileage per day. We’re all moderately experienced hikers (little backpacking though, hence my question) and in good physical shape. We’re assuming decently weighty packs, not going ultralite for sure. We’re planning to be mainly on country roads, open fields, that sort of thing. Is 20 miles a day unreasonable? Thanks all.

Recently, I bought a pair of Vasque Gore-Tex hiking/backpacking boots for my upcoming trip to Philmont, New Mexico for a Boy Scout trip. How do I know when they are broken in? I have been wearing them around town and the house for about 3 days.

Me and my husband are avid hikers and backpackers. We already had 2 dogs that are over a yr that we take with us but recently a stray puppy probably about 10 weeks old but very energetic was dumped on lawn so now we have 3 dogs. Our favorite local hike is about 5 miles long with about 2 of it on a decent slope and 1.5 on a decent slope down. Is she too young for this or could we take her. She is very hyper so I think she could go and I want to start exposing her to this since we will be doing it a lot.
