NONAME asked:
I’m planning a trip there this year and can go either early August or late September, which is better for the high country? Also I want to plan some remote backpacking (i.e. not on the valley floor) and am trying to conjure up a 4-5 night backpacking trip plan. My party is pretty fit and up for a challenge… anyone have any experience or ideas for us?

Preferably in the Northeast, and something that would take approximately 1 week. Please include links to more info so I can plan the trip.

Some friends and I are backpacking through Ireland this summer, and we’re trying to figure out what is a reasonable expectation of mileage per day. We’re all moderately experienced hikers (little backpacking though, hence my question) and in good physical shape. We’re assuming decently weighty packs, not going ultralite for sure. We’re planning to be mainly on country roads, open fields, that sort of thing. Is 20 miles a day unreasonable? Thanks all.

Recently, I bought a pair of Vasque Gore-Tex hiking/backpacking boots for my upcoming trip to Philmont, New Mexico for a Boy Scout trip. How do I know when they are broken in? I have been wearing them around town and the house for about 3 days.
