Daily budget for backpacking in Thailand?

Diatribe asked:

I’m planning a backpacking trip to Thailand soon and would like to know how much I should budget for. I’ll be staying at cheap hostels and I don’t drink. Thanks.

try this website and looking for Sawasdee Smile Inn Hotel… this is cheapest in Bangkok. If you wanna get cheapest rate for other city you may try click on other city’s name on left or using search engine box on top-right. In addition, this web got lowest rate guarantee ….. G’luck

Where in Thailand are you backpacking through? Outside thecities, you can get lodging for about USD7 a night. Eating like the locals will cost you about USD5, 3 meals and drinks included.

In the cities, the cost will go up a bit, about USD10 for room and the local food will cost about USD6 for the 3 meals.

You can use the amounts quite ssfely. Just look around places you do not expect to find accommodation to find your budget room. Even home-stay is possible outside the cities.

    Have fun travelling.

Hi I just came back from a backpacking trip to Thailand.
I budget about $30 Aus a day for breakfast, dinner, accommodation and a hire motorbike.
It depends how much touring you are going to do, as this budget does not include train or coach or air fares.
I do not drink (much) but the delicious food can ruin your budget, and your waistline lol.
Try this site, it has a holiday budget page on it.
    Have a great trip.

Depending on what you’re doing, you can get by on as little as $20 a day on average or up to thousands. If you stay in one place longer you’ll keep your expenses way down as moving around a lot tends to cost more money - not only do you spend money on moving, but you also can’t negotiate deals with guest houses and you’ll spend more while adjusting to local prices.

All that being said, I think a budget of $20 a day is the least you can *really* expect to get by on and have fun. Just for example, here are some common prices for things:
