Do I need a visa for backpacking through Europe?

June 20th, 2008
Lex L asked:

I will be backpacking through Europe for 3-4 months. I will have my passport, will I also need a visa? How does that work if I will be in many different countries there?

To find out if you need a visa to visit a country, check their immigration information online. Most countries have this info available in English on their web sites. My guess is that you won’t need a visa anywhere in Europe, but be on the safe side and check.

well if you’re backpakcingand you’re not staying anywhere for an extended amount of time so yes i would atleast carry a photocopy of passport and visa that way if someone pickpockets/ robs you you will still have the origina where ever you kept it. p.s also keep anything of imporantec in a front pocket.

    Some country’s are required visa.
My best advice is to check with conlulate of the country’s you are going to before you get there.

It depeds on what country you are from. If you are from an E.U. member or a member country of the commonwealth, then generally no. If not then more than likly you will need one. Obtaining work while you are travelling will be a different matter all together. The best ting for you to do is to contact your countrys foreign office.
