A freind and I are planning a backpacking trip to Europe in the spring of 2008. I have looked at all the websites (Rick Steves, Lonely Planet, ect.) and can’t find anything about approximated costs, or how to figure them out. We plan on staying in hostels and going to as many major cities as we can (Paris, Roam, Prague, ect.) Can anyone help??

It really depends on how frugal/extravagent you plan to be over there. If you are constantly going to be moving and never stopping more than a day or 2 at any place getting the Eurail pass for the train will save you on traveling city to city. Go to Eurail.com for prices I think it is around $1000. Then figure about $30 a day for meals plus $5-$15 for a hostel and then whatever amount you want for shopping and entertainment. It takes about $1.30 to buy one Euro right now so the exchange will hurt you some. Good Luck and have fun p.s. make sure to go to Ceski’ Krumlov outside of Prague and make the trip north of Paris to Brussels and Amsterdam
you should save enough
I would gather some money for food/drinks…about $600 and $500 if you plan to buy some souvenirs.
I would also bring some big cash just in case you have a medical emergency
