Well you should definetly bring matches and a knife for sure.
You should also bring some type of small tent and idk if your planning on bringing food but if not a small fishing pole, and make sure to bring plenty of water!

A small bottle of liquid soap (for washing small clothing items, dishes, etc.. etc…), a good pair of walking shoes, one little black dress, and a dressy sweater to match that you can wear with other things, non-wrinkling clothing items that you can dress up or dress down. If you’re traveling with a friend who is your size, plan to share outfits and toiletries, etc…. a small first aid kit (with band aids and antibiotic cream or spray), a small bottle of febreze, a travel umbrella, travel sized bottles of shampoo rinse, travel sized soaps, etc… so you can dump as you go…you don’t want to be carrying half full bottles of shampoo all over Europe! Make copies of your passport and itinerary and leave one copy at home with someone you can reach, and take a copy with you. Check with your cell phone company, and bring your cell phone…if you have ATT, they offer a pretty good discount for about $5 for the month (sign up just before you go, and cancel afterwards), and the calls with taxes are anywhere from 45 to 75 cents a minute (which sounds like a lot, but you DON’T want to hassle with pay phones in Europe, and these are good to have in an emergency if you are separated from others in your group…I went to Italy last October and was dreading my bill afterwards, but it was only about $50 more than usual, which was shocking, considering the time I spent on the phone to people in my group there and to people at home…just budget yourself if you are worried about charges). Remember, you can buy what you need there if you forget something! Bring an adapter plug (or buy one there). If you are going to be carrying a backpack, practice packing and put your pack on and walk around your block two or three times to get an idea of the weight. Pack what you want at first and then CUT IT IN HALF…you will not need everything you think you need, and you will want room for stuff you buy there. Bring a neck pillow for the plane and any trains you may take, and (if light bothers you) a sleeping mask. Bring a small, soft sided cooler and plastic zip loc bags (all different sizes–in fact, you should pack any liquids you bring in zip lock bags)…you can shop at local markets or bakeries, etc.. for fruit, bread, etc…., and pack your lunch and water for outings (MUCH better and cheaper than buying at tourist traps), and you can get ice at the hotel or stores to keep the contents cool. You might also bring plastic silverware to re-use. You should also bring a small flashlight and a swiss army knife. Have fun!

There’s a great packing checklist on The Travellers Lounge:

  1. No trackbacks yet.
