What are your favorite lightweight backpacking foods?

July 11th, 2008
Serafim asked:

I usually go with oatmeal, ramen, and trail mix as my staples, but I am doing a 7 day backpacking trip with my friends, and I can’t live off of that stuff for that long.

What are some of your favorite (lightweight) backpacking foods?

I have friends who do bike rides for charity and they were telling me about those packets called goo that contain concentrated protein and sugar for energy. They said they are a powerful punch for quick energy when you need it.

Of course, Vegemite is good, also!

Hit Cabelas and get some MRE’s, they are light weight and nutritionally sound.

we have packs of nuts —different types and dried fruit lots of variety and very nourishing. Have just had dried cranberries very nice. Also pumkin and sunflower seed. Use the packs during the day when walking —–at night cook up a meal dried meal packs from the camping store.
