what is a good 2 person backpacking tent?

You could always use two tarps with some twine. One for the ground and one over your head. You can find sticks or poles as you go so you won’t have to carry them. I would recommend a sleeping pad. The foam kind won’t deflate and is light, but bulky.
i use a kelty crestone 1 as a solo tent… i think a crestone 2 will do the job fine… considering the weather in central america is somewhat the same here in the philippines. HTH
