I’m going to Yosemite at the end of May and need suggestions for a trail or trails for a one week backpacking trip. I want to stay on a trail with less people and not too much of an altitude change.

There are a few articles in the most recent issue of backpacker magazine (May 2008) related to backpacking in Yosemite. They include maps, guides, backpacker stories, etc. VERY usefull stuff. Good luck.
I would recommend starting from Tuolumne Meadows and hike through Volgasang pass and continue on down to little yosemite valley. This can be done in 5 days but you will most likely want to spend an extra night at Volgasang Lake and Merced Lake. It is tough but with an extra night or two in the same camp you should be able to recoop. Have a great hike, i have been out there the last 3 years. This year it is Yellow Stone in Septemper.
