Holla asked:
I’m going backpacking to Europe in January for 27 days landing in Germany and will have a global eurail pass, I was wondering where would be the best places to visit in late January early February to get the most out of the 27 days. If anyone could give me a little insight about this I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

If you’re landing in Germany…it would be great if you could hop over to lucern, switzerland as well…it’s a beautiful city and near to mt titlis…you’ll probably have lots of fun up there. It’s just breathtaking! Or if you’re not interested in sceneries, then maybe after visiting germany…you can go over to Amsterdam. A country which shouldn’t be missed. Don’t forget Paris of course. The eiffel tower is something you must see. While you’re there, go on the river cruise. It’ll give you a nice view of the city. Passing through the Hunchback of Notredame and others. Go on the eurotrain to UK. While in UK, go over to conrwall and see their countryside. The stonehedge is something you should see. But I think you would need a car to get there though. It’s quite far from London. Or if you’re heading up north…make sure you go over to Sterling and climb up the william walace monument….if you’ve watched Braveheart (Mel Gibson’s movie). you’ll be able to appreciate this! Scotland is a place where you really should go…there’s just so many things to see…
Enjoy your backpacking!!
Italy is great and has heaps to offer…the north and central areas north of Rome in particular…I went and can recommend these places:
Verona
Venice ( small and does not need more than 2 nights max)
Rome
Florence
Sienna
Bologna
I went to some other places while based in these places like to Pompeii from Rome ( day tour), Pisa from Florence and Lucca ( from Florence).
Paris is great too and offers a lot, probably more than any other city I went to.
Prague is lovely and is definately worth a look ( one of my favourite cities)….its not huge either.
THis time of year will be quite grey and overcast, but you might get a few nice days ( not warm in general tho).
THere is SO much to see, but don’t spend all your time travelling from A to B ( if you do want to go by night so you have more time to see things) and in general it takes longer to get from one place to another than you will think so just keep that in mind….
I did my Italian adventure to the places above in around 12 days, so that gives you an idea ( I had 2 nights in Venice, 3 in Rome and Florence and 1 in the other places)……seeing lots of places in 4 WEEKS may seem like the best thing, but all you will remember is one thing in each place and the inside of the train….its better to experience things more thoroughly to make better memories than to try and see lots or miss things as you have a train to catch to get onto your next place.
Ukraine. Your Eurail pass is useless here and you will need to learn Ukrainian or Russian to maneuver through but it is far better than Central and Western Europe.
